NATIVE RAINBOW SERIES

In creating my painting of a rainbow, I embarked on a journey that defied conventional patterns and structures. This artwork, featuring an arrow piercing the edge of a semi-globe, emerged as a vivid exploration of my latent connection to native roots and uncharted territories. The imagery evoked the stark, contrasting sensations of arid deserts against the backdrop of moisture, manifesting a physical representation of dryness amidst the spectrum of water-colored arcs.

The colors chosen for this piece do not merely fill space; they communicate a story of dualitiesβ€”of being and belonging, of the parched earth and the nourishing rain. The raw, rugged edges of the painted shapes coalesce into a map of places I feel deeply connected to yet have never physically visited. This work stands as a visual manifestation of imagined landscapes, a tableau of remembered or inherited memories of lands both barren and bountiful.

This series invites viewers into a realm of wonder and introspection, challenging them to consider the places that reside within usβ€”those we carry in our collective memories and ancestral stories. The juxtaposition of hues and textures in the painting captures a place of wonder, a liminal space where the familiar and the unknown meet, prompting us to explore not just where we are, but where we have the potential to go.
